Well shit if any band bringing out an album after nearly two years started out
with a breakdown we would love every album. Come on Haste the Day, your way of
saying “hello” again after a dismal last release is the track Wake Up the Sun
then you got some problems, problems I hope to share with everyone.
This is Haste the Day and this is the album they hope to sell nearly 100,000
albums again, just like they almost did with When Everything Falls and Pressure
the Hinges. Attack of the Wolf King just doesn’t have that special something
that makes it stand out amongst other metalcore releases. This is just “pass on
effort” music that has what music goers want.
Among the disappointing 38 minute record I did find a few things I liked. The
simple, yet boring, breakdowns are toe tapping. Sure I can give credit to the
guitar team on this record but I think there is a part in The Quiet, Deadly
Ticking that sounds too Killswitch Engage. What is this flatter another band as
you try to make more money off them? Not going to happen guys because most
metalcore craziness has been done and I don’t see Haste the Day revolutionizing
anything any time soon.
That might be the albums biggest fault when I really think about it. Attack of
the Wolf King isn’t its own record. It is a bunch of good ideas other bands used
in the past, maybe 3 to 5 years, mixed with Haste the Day from 2004 to 2007.
Before you say “well that isn’t so bad” I am pretty sure you have the albums
Haste the Day praised on their record and by praising I mean copying off of.
Final Verdict
I just want to give Michael Murphey (only original member) and the rest of the
band a nice thank you for letting us listen to an album that went sour. Where is
the magic that made Haste the Day a somebody in the sea of metalcore bands?
Attack of the Wolf King is a copycat record that doesn’t deserve much credit. I
found parts to be catchy and my score is semi-reflecting on the good parts the
band stole from other metalcore acts.
