When one thing works out pretty well in one country why not copy off them?
Emmanuelle in Hong Kong is a rip off of the series if you haven’t figured that
out or you don’t care. I just watch these movies for my viewers and I think it
would be in my best interest to skip the small history lesson and get on with
the juicy details.
Yan and Emily have now been married for 2 years. Their sex life hasn’t really
taken off in that time either and that is due to Emily’s beliefs, she is a
Catholic. Anytime sex is brought up Emily gets frustrated at Yan. To try and
save their marriage though Yan arranges for her wife to be kidnapped at a castle
for a long sex tutorial. Yan’s hoping the teachings will make her more
experienced when it comes to their sex life.
The plot alone is a departure to the regular series. Emmanuelle, either the
black or white one, is a photographer. In this version of Emmanuelle you have a
husband who pretty much wants his wife to go have sex with strangers just so he
can actually get some. If this is how the guy is then why did he marry her in
the first place? That is a huge issue with the plot; the movie just has no
meaning since Yan didn’t have to marry Emily in the first place. He knew what he
was getting into.
This sex tutorial she is getting is not what you would think. Most of those
bizarre happenings in Japan films, the not safe for anything ones, are nearly
recreated at some point in this movie. How is this teaching her anything? Not
only that, at points Yan will watch Emily get put into these strange situations.
While watching his wife another girl will come in and then you have yourself a
movie that just makes as much sense as me wasting my time watching it.
For a softcore flick Emmanuelle in Hong Kong pushes the boundaries. In China
there are certain rules you have to follow when making movies. Those rules can
pretty much be summed up with nothing hardcore. Emmanuelle in Hong Kong goes to
that very limit with all of the sex scenes. If you look close enough you might
even see some rules being broken. So for those who like that something extra
this Emmanuelle might be for you.
The quality of the film has a Soap Opera feel to it. The way it is filmed makes
me remember the days I had to watch The Young and the Restless when I stayed
home from school. It just seems way to fake to me but with all joking aside for
a DVD transfer it isn’t all that bad, one of the better looking Emmanuelle DVDs
I have seen.
On the audio front you are getting an earful when it comes to the screaming. I
had a headache during this movie due to all of the screaming! There are times
when I just wish the sound wasn’t all that good and Emmanuelle in Hong Kong is
one of those movies that I wish would shut up. But if you want me to answer your
question the sound is mediocre with some film sound heard throughout the movie.
What shocked me the most on this DVD were the bonus features. If you can’t
understand Chinese then you can have English subtitles for starters. Next there
is a fairly decent Making Of featurette. Lastly there is a deleted scene and
some trailers. The deleted scene just shows you what I was talking about before
with the standards in China.
Final Verdict
For a softcore flick this one will have you laughing. Just the plot alone will
have you laughing because it is just so stupid. Serious movie goers should enjoy
finding all of the problems in the movie too. Maybe this movie has potential on
having a good drinking game. Oh the potential this has…
Rating Breakdown
Movie: 4 out of 10
+ So dumb and out there that I actually found some enjoyment.
- All of the problems with the plot itself hurt because there
dumb mistakes.
Picture: 7 out of 10
+ Good looking DVD, I honestly mean that.
- I can’t stand how the movie looks like a damn Soap Opera.
Audio: 6 out of 10
+ No problem hearing things, even the movies music.
- Loud screams and some picture sound can destroy the mood.
Extras: 5 out of 10
+ For a movie of this caliber these features are phenomenal…
- But to standards they are still a little short of awesome.
